D.C. to explore autonomous vehicle program through Interagency AV Working Group
In an effort to explore an autonomous vehicle (AV) program in the city, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the establishment of the Interagency AV Working Group on Feb. 12. The working group will “proactively prepare the District for AV technologies and ensure that AV deployment will benefit District residents and visitors.”
The working group is made up of District agencies focused on transportation, disability rights, environmental issues, and public safety. It also includes representatives from a variety of entities across D.C., including from the Office of the City Administrator, the District Department of Transportation, and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

InstantEye Robotics receives order for 800 of its InstantEye Mk-2 GEN3-A0 sUAS systems
InstantEye Robotics has received an order from the Navy and Marine Corps Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program Office (PMA-263) for 800 of its InstantEye Mk-2 GEN3-A0 sUAS systems.
The systems delivered under this contract will provide organic surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, in support of deployed Marine infantry squads.
“We are excited that InstantEye has been selected by the Marines as their squad-level sUAS asset,” says Tom Vaneck, Vice President of InstantEye Robotics.
Gryphon Sensors partners with WhiteFox Defense Technologies to advance Skylight Counter-UAS System
Gryphon Sensors is partnering with WhiteFox Defense Technologies to integrate WhiteFox’s “non-jamming, non-kinetic mitigation and analysis capabilities” with Gryphon's Skylight system.
Gryphon's Skylight system provides “intelligent situational awareness for integration and security,” using multiple ground-based sensors to detect cooperative and non-cooperative targets in the airspace.
According to the companies, the resulting RF-based sensor-driven system provides an “industry leading unclassified and exportable counter-UAS system.”

DARPA successfully completes ACTUV program, ACTUV "Sea Hunter" Prototype transitions to ONR
DARPA has announced that it has successfully completed its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program.
The technology demonstration vessel, christened Sea Hunter, has officially been transferred to the Office of Naval Research (ONR). ONR will continue developing the vehicle, which is described as “the first of what could ultimately become an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel able to traverse thousands of kilometers over open seas for months at a time, without a single crew member aboard—as the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV).”

AeroVironment's automated Quantix hybrid UAS for farmers now available
AeroVironment, Inc. has announced that its automated Quantix hybrid UAS and AeroVironment Decision Support System (AV DSS) analytics software are now available for sale through its authorized reseller network.
According to AeroVironment, the technology is a “powerfully simple-to-use and fully integrated drone and data processing solution delivering actionable intelligence for the farm.”

Suncor Energy to use autonomous haulage systems at company-operated mines
Suncor Energy, which is a Canadian integrated energy company, has announced that it will proceed with the “phased implementation of autonomous haulage systems (AHS)” at company-operated mines, starting with the North Steepbank mine.
Over the next six years, Suncor expects to deploy more than 150 autonomous haul trucks in the full program, which will be “one of the largest investments in electric autonomous vehicles in the world,” according to the company.
Suncor has spent the past four years evaluating AHS technology, and the company has validated that this technology can be used “safely, effectively and efficiently in its operating environment.”
