DJI is looking to partner with state, local and tribal governments that are applying to take part in the FAA’s recently launched UAS Integration Pilot Program, which will provide opportunities for government and industry to experiment with advanced UAS operations and test new forms of airspace management.
Governments that are interested in participating in the UAS Integration Pilot Program have been asked by the FAA to work with UAS operators and manufacturers in their applications to be part of the pilot program.
With this in mind, DJI is inviting those governments to consider partnering with DJI, so that the “expertise and collaborative vitality” of their programs can be enhanced.

QGC to leverage Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems through contract with Insitu
Insitu and QGC have announced a contract with each other that will result in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) from Insitu performing automated infrastructure inspection and management services at QGC’s operations within Queensland, Australia.
Described as a “first-of-its-kind program” in Australia, the contract in the Surat Basin “represents a significant move towards the use of autonomous air vehicles and advanced analytics in the area of broad acre infrastructure operations and maintenance.”
Expert Drones and Marriott International to bring drone racing to W Fort Lauderdale Hotel
On Nov. 28, Expert Drones and Marriott International will bring drone racing to W Hotels through an event called “Drone Dash.”
Drone Dash will bring the world of drone racing to the hotel space, as the “immersive drone race” will take place inside and outside the property of the newly renovated W Fort Lauderdale Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“Drone technology is being utilized in a variety of different ways, but never before like this,” says Brett Velicovich, Managing Partner of Expert Drones.
Sightec's image stabilization electronic technology integrates with Alpha 800 UAV
Madrid, Spain’s Alpha Unmanned Systems (AUS), which manufactures a gasoline-powered helicopter UAV called the Alpha 800, has announced a technology partnership with Sightec, which is an Israel-based developer of video image stabilization and object detection software.
“We are delighted to integrate our technology onto the Alpha 800 platform,” says Roy Shmuel, CEO of Sightec.
“With 2.5 hours of flight time, our image stabilization system makes the image analysis work very easy and accurate. Alpha is a reliable partner with a world-class helicopter platform and we are very pleased to work together.”
Groundbreaking ceremony launches construction of SunTrax test facility
A groundbreaking ceremony officially launched the construction of SunTrax test facility, which is a long-term partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and Florida Polytechnic University (Florida Poly) that is centrally located between Tampa and Orlando.
SunTrax includes a 2.25 mile oval track on a 400-acre site in the city of Auburndale, Florida that will be used for, among many things, testing connected and automated technology such as lane departure, and vehicle platooning. The oval track’s construction is scheduled to be complete in spring 2019.
In addition to the oval track, SunTrax will also feature an infield facility, which is being designed as a hub for connected and automated vehicle testing.
CTIA says that commercial wireless networks offer best platform to support UAS industry
CTIA, which is a wireless association that represents the wireless communications industry in the United States, has called on the FAA to recognize that commercial wireless networks offer the best communications platform to support America's UAS market that continues to grow and evolve at a rapid pace.
The call from CTIA comes as the FAA looks to establish the first federal rules governing how UAS should communicate with each other and the surrounding environment.
AirMap to integrate its airspace intelligence into Kespry's UAS platform
AirMap and Kespry have announced a partnership that will result in Kespry’s automated UAS platform being equipped with AirMap’s best-in-class airspace intelligence, which includes airspace advisories, wind, and weather.
The new AirMap-Kespry integration provides the Kespry flight app with AirMap’s airspace intelligence. During the flight planning process, the app automatically surfaces AirMap airspace advisories, wind, and weather customized to the specific parameters of each flight, including the UAS operator’s pilot certification.
The Sky Guys and partners to develop UAS platform to monitor highways in Ontario
A Canadian provider of UAS technology and systems called The Sky Guys has teamed up with NVIDIA, IBM and the University of Toronto to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled UAS platform to monitor Ontario’s 400-series highways, in response to the Vehicle Occupancy Detection Problem Statement from the Small Business Innovation Challenge.
Working closely with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) to develop this platform, the entities will complete this application, known as the “Long-Range AI-Enabled Unmanned Aerial System for Highway Traffic Enforcement with Future Road Applications,” using a $750,000 award from Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), as part of the Small Business Innovation Challenge (SBIC).
