LLamasoft, which provides supply chain optimization technology, has partnered with Zipline, which operates the world’s only UAS delivery system of national scale, and sends urgent medical supplies to patients regardless of their location.
The two companies have been working together to simulate Zipline’s operations, and evaluate the cost and performance benefits that LLamasoft’s technology can bring to existing public health supply chains.
Since last October, Zipline has been operating in Rwanda, and the company is preparing to expand its operations into Tanzania.

Unmanned Applications Institute International and ISight RPV Services merge to form Midwest Drone Group
According to the Grand Forks Herald, Unmanned Applications Institute (UAI) International and ISight RPV Services have merged together to form the Midwest Drone Group.
The two companies, which are both stationed at the Center for Innovation on the campus of the University of North Dakota, have a combined 11 employees that perform operations across 15 states.
“The last couple of years we have been working very closely together -- sharing people, sharing assets,” says Tommy Kenville, the Midwest president who founded UAI.

DJI partners with South Korea’s Zanybros to provide UAS for filming and production projects
In an effort to take “video content creation to new heights,” DJI has partnered with Zanybros, which is South Korea’s top production house that specializes in music video and commercial filmmaking.
Through this strategic partnership, DJI will provide its hardware and technical support to the future filming and production projects by Zanybros.
There are also plans to work on training programs for professionals—specifically those in the music and entertainment industry—to find new and innovative ways to produce Korean-Pop (K-Pop) content.
TuSimple to test driverless trucks in Tucson, Arizona after opening new office
TuSimple, which is a company based in China that is developing driverless commercial trucks, has opened an office in Tucson, Arizona, which will allow the company to test and demonstrate its vehicles in the city.
This will be TuSimple’s second office in the United States, as the company also has an office in San Diego.
“We believe that by leveraging the autonomous truck technology, we can help local economic growth by making Tucson the new nexus for [transportation logistics], and also sprout new job opportunities,” says TuSimple co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Xiaodi Hou, via Arizona Public Media.
Lockheed Martin to pair its Indago UAS with MyDefence Communication’s KNOX Counter-UAS System
Under a new development agreement, Lockheed Martin will pair its Indago quadrotor UAS with the MyDefence Communication KNOX counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS).
By pairing the systems together, Lockheed Martin and Denmark-based research and development company MyDefence Communication hope to achieve rapid response aerial surveillance capabilities, which will give users the ability to “quickly and effectively detect adversaries and record evidence that could be used for prosecution.”
The KNOX system is an “anti-drone alarm and protection capability paired with Indago to gather real-time information about a suspect drone and its pilot.”
Department of Homeland Security's Common Unmanned Aircraft System Site opens in Mississippi
The Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Common Unmanned Aircraft System Site has opened in Mississippi at the Camp Shelby military post.
Acting DHS Undersecretary William Bryan says that the UAS Support facility, which cost $72 million, is the only Unmanned Aircraft Regional Flight Center in the country.
“This is a great day for Mississippi,” Bryan says through the Hattiesburg American.
According to Bryan, the site has several goals, including improving the security and safety of the country’s borders, conducting search and rescue operations, and helping during natural disasters.
White Settlement Independent School District in Texas adopts USI’ UAS curriculum
White Settlement Independent School District has become the first Texas school district to adopt the Unmanned Safety Institute’s (USI) UAS curriculum, which is made up of four college-equivalent courses, and totals more than 150 hours of instruction.
“We congratulate White Settlement ISD for leading the way in Texas with USI drone curriculum,” says Aaron Greenwald, President of Unmanned Safety Institute.
“Embracing Unmanned Safety Institute curriculum will help students access valuable education within the aviation field. White Settlement is an important component in creating a pathway for students to access this curriculum.”
