On Tuesday, Sept. 15, US Ignite announced the launch of the Mountain Express Automated Shuttle at Fort Carson, Colorado, a United States Army installation.
An electric vehicle capable of performing all driving functions independently under certain conditions, the Mountain Express will provide passenger service on the post as part of a yearlong effort to test automated vehicle technologies and collect data for future transportation modeling on smart military installations across the country.

The Dubai Police has selected Draganfly to pilot new drone initiatives using Draganfly’s technical and operation experiences, as well as the company’s Intellectual Property.

Thales Australia and Flinders University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to study the development of an automation system for the launch and recovery process of the General Dynamics Mission Systems Bluefin 9 UUV, procured by the Royal Australian Navy under its Deployable Mine Counter Measures project.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority welcomes Olli 2.0 AV to its Test & Learn program
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) has welcomed the Olli 2.0 autonomous vehicle from Beep, Local Motors by LM Industries and Robotic Research LLC into its JTA Test & Learn program.
Through a partnership with Beep, Local Motors by LM Industries and Robotic Research, the Olli 2.0 was delivered to Jacksonville in late August. This is Local Motor’s first electric, autonomous, 3D-printed shuttle to be built in the United States. According to JTA, the Olli 2.0 will lead the next phase of the JTA’s Test & Learn activities at Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Cecil Center Campus and the JTA’s Armsdale Test & Learn facilities.

LiquidPiston awarded SBIR Phase I grant to develop X-Engine for UAS
The U.S. Army has awarded LiquidPiston Inc., a developer of advanced rotary internal combustion engines for diesel and jet fuels, a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant to develop its X-Engine as a hybrid-electric propulsion platform for UAS.
During a parallel hybrid UAV demonstration using jet fuel, LiquidPiston successfully showcased its X-Engine powered propulsion platform.

Walmart, Zipline partner to launch 'first-of-its-kind' drone delivery service in U.S.
Walmart has partnered with Zipline to launch what's being described as a “first-of-its-kind” drone delivery operation in the U.S.
According to Walmart, the new service will make on-demand deliveries of select health and wellness products with the potential to expand to general merchandise. Zipline’s proprietary technology will be used during the trial deliveries, which will take place near Walmart’s headquarters in Northwest Arkansas.

Milrem Robotics' Multiscope Rescue UGV showcases capabilities during urban search and rescue exercise
During the first week of September, Milrem Robotics’ Multiscope Rescue UGV was utilized by the Estonian Disaster Relief Team (EDRT) during an urban search and rescue (USAR) exercise in the main training facility of the Estonian Rescue Board in Väike-Maarja, Estonia.
Using the UGV, the rescue equipment of two USAR units was transported to the operation area, allowing members of the unit to save their energy and reach survivors quicker.
