Digital Harvest donates UAS to Blue Mountain Community College

Digital Harvest, known for using remote sensing and data science techniques to solve large scale problems in agriculture, has donated four UAS and associated equipment to Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) in Pendleton, Oregon. As part of its Precision Agriculture program, BMCC currently offers courses in UAS for agriculture. In coordination with local industry, BMCC is also in the process of developing a full UAS program. The newly donated UAS and associated technologies will support the current UAS courses, as well as the development of the new UAS program.

Navya launches level 4 fully autonomous shuttle service in France

Navya has announced that on June 22, the company launched a level 4 fully autonomous shuttle service, which means there is no safety operator on board the vehicle. In partnership with Keolis, the service launched at the National Sport Shooting Centre (NSSC) in Châteauroux, France. Since the launch of the service, the shuttle, known as the “Autonom Shuttle Evo,” has been operating within the National Shooting Sport Centre, providing athletes and visitors with a way to move from the car park to the reception area. The shuttle operates at a maximum speed of 18 kilometers per hour along the 1.5-kilometer route.

FAA selects team to develop and test new integrated Contingency Management Platform at New York UAS Test Site

The FAA has selected five commercial companies to be a part of a team that will be responsible for developing and testing a new integrated Contingency Management Platform (CMP) at the New York UAS Test Site at Griffiss International Airport in Rome, New York. The five companies are CAL Analytics, ResilienX, Assured Information Security (AIS), TruWeather and Kongsberg Geospatial. The FAA recently awarded a $1.6M contract that will advance unmanned traffic management (UTM) at the New York UAS Test Site. CAL Analytics will lead the development of the project.

Embention, Sagetech Avionics partner to offer full situational awareness during unmanned flights

UAS components supplier Embention has partnered with miniature aviation transponders developer and manufacturer Sagetech Avionics. By partnering with Sagetech and adding the company’s transponders, Embention will now be able to offer a full certified situational awareness during the piloting of UAS. “We’re thrilled to announce a partnership with Embention to provide the smallest, most durable avionics suite for drone manufacturers,” says Sagetech Avionics CEO Tom Furey. “The integration of reliable systems like Embention’s Veronte Autopilot and Sagetech Avionics’ XP or MX transponders with ADS-B, ensure the safe integration of unmanned aircraft in congested airspace, over long-range, beyond line of sight (BLOS), and at night.”

FLIR Systems awarded contract to deliver dozens of SkyRaider UAS to U.S. Marine Corps

FLIR Systems Inc. will deliver dozens of its SkyRaider UAS to the United States Marine Corps after being awarded a $10 million contract.  The FLIR R80D SkyRaider is FLIR’s most advanced military UAS. Developed for U.S. defense and federal government customers, the UAS is equipped with long-range, high-resolution EO/IR imaging sensors that provide day and night situational awareness. For forward resupply, asset extraction, and other specialized missions, SkyRaider can carry and deliver external loads up to 4.4 pounds. The UAS also features “some of the most powerful” embedded AI processing available on a small UAS, according to FLIR.

UAVOS' UVH-170 unmanned helicopter successfully completes first high altitude flight

UAVOS’ UVH-170 unmanned helicopter recently showcased its value to mountainous areas operations by successfully conducting its first high altitude flight and reaching a height of 16,400 feet. During its flight, the UAS performed surveillance missions. 

GA-ASI completes month-long demonstration of GE-ER UAS

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) has announced the completion of a month-long demo event that showcased its Gray Eagle Extended Range (GE-ER) UAS equipped with a suite of long-range sensors, Air Launched Effects (ALE) and Scalable Command and Control (SC2). GA-ASI collaborated with industry to equip the UAS with best-of-breed long-range intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) payloads and ALEs. During the demo, the UAS showed a persistent stand-off survivability with stand-in capabilities with up to 40 hours of endurance that Army Commanders can use to orchestrate forces in the Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) environment.
