Showcasing the increasing interest in unmanned systems for maritime use, Israel’s Elbit Systems has unveiled a version of its Hermes 900 for maritime missions.
With an eye on the Indian market, the company introduced the maritime Hermes at the Aero-India 2013 show, noting that countries like India are responsible for monitoring economic exclusion zones that can extend for up to 200 nautical miles from their coasts.
In the maritime configuration, the 900 carries a maritime surveillance radar, an electro-optical payload, satellite links and a radio relay, among other payloads. Elbit has teamed with Israeli neighbor Windward Ltd. to incorporate its MarInt maritime analytics software, which can perform “deep behavior analysis on each ship, searching for irregularities and discrepancies,” Elbit says.
