Israel-based Elbit Systems has created a new mini UAS, the Skylark C, a maritime version of the company’s venerable Skylark I, currently in use by dozens of customers around the world.

The Skylark C is intended to serve as another pair of eyes for vessels at sea, allowing them to inspect maritime activities from safe distances, perform coastal reconnaissance and continuous covert surveillance, according to the company.

“Until recently, the ability to achieve real-time maritime situational awareness and ISTAR capabilities in a short period of time and with minimal resources remained a significant gap,” Elad Aharonson, general manager of the ISTAR Division, said in a company press release. “Now, with Skylark C, small-scale naval crews, such as special operations forces and coast guard patrols, can capture mission-critical information using a truly intuitive and organic system, and as a result significantly improve their operational effectiveness.”

The Skylark C is highly autonomous, and is built to perform missions while keeping a low profile. Elbit says some of the unique functions that are included in the Skylark C are high quality video at both day and night time, an advanced inertial navigation system, and recovery on water using a parachute or onboard with an option net recovery system.
