Before an audience that included military, civil and commercial customers from around the world, Textron Systems Unmanned Systems successfully tested its Aerosonde HQ at its new service and support center in Blackstone, VA.

During the demonstration, the company highlighted the Aerosonde HQ’s vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, as well as its ability to land without any prepositioned personnel or recovery equipment involved.

For Bill Irby, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Textron, this demonstration could not have gone much better.

“It was rewarding to share these developments with our potential customers and hear their feedback” said Irby via a company press release. “We believe this technology holds tremendous potential for our defense, as well as our civil and commercial customers.”

Irby also added that Textron has received a lot of interest about the system from potential customers, including some who are already working with the company on their “fee-for-service” programs for the Aerosonde SUAS.

Other features of the Aerosonde HQ include eight-hour flight endurance, a 10,000-foot service ceiling and the purpose-built Lycoming EL-005 heavy fuel engine for “benchmark-setting reliability and performance.”
