Clearpath Robotics and ARGO XTR Unveil Warthog UGV
Clearpath Robotics and ARGO XTR (Xtreme Terrain Robotics) have combined to create the new Warthog unmanned ground vehicle, an amphibious device designed to let researchers test their robotic systems in all kinds of terrain.
Equipped with 24-inch traction tires that can navigate any surface, including soft soil, mud or steep grades, the Warthog can carry nearly 600 pounds of payload. In water, it can travel 2.5 mph and on land it can travel more than 11 mph.
Other features that make the UGV adaptable to its conditions include a light-weight aluminum chassis, built-in bilge pumps and an IP rating of 67, and an all-electric, skid-steer platform.
ARGO XTR “has a terrific record of manufacturing rock-solid outdoor platforms,” said Julian Ware, general manager for research solutions at Clearpath Robotics, in a company press release. “Combined with our expertise in robotics, we’ve developed rugged platform suitable for a wide range of robotics applications in mining, agriculture, forestry, space, and environmental monitoring.”
Jason Scheib, ARGO XTR robotics program director, added, “the combination of our proven experience in amphibious and extreme terrain environments with our platforms with the progressive software and sensor integration from Clearpath Robotics, has created a second to none solution for a myriad of research and commercial applications.”
