AUVSI Remarks on Counter-UAS at XELEVATE’S 2023 Airspace Awareness and Protection Conference

On June 8, 2023, AUVSI attended and exhibited at the 2023 Airspace Awareness and Protection Conference, co-hosted by Xelevate and C-UAS Hub in Leesburg, Virginia. As the 2023 legislative session began Iowa legislators had a clear goal in mind – protecting the privacy of farmers. As a major agricultural state, the concerns of farmers and the agricultural community have always been a focus of the legislature.

For the 2023 legislative session, Montana introduced four measures related to drones, two of which were signed into law. These measures focused on the misuse of drones, from trespassing, to hunting, to interfering with emergency services.

Texas was the most active State this year in drone policy, with twenty bills getting introduced and seven measures making to the Governor’s desk.

2023 End of State Sessions Report: Florida

For the 2023 legislative session, Florida introduced six distinct measures, for twelve total bills, related to AAM and UAS. Four of those have now passed the legislature and are on their way to the Governor’s desk. In addition to their regular session, Florida was dealing with rulemaking related to the country-of-origin ban that passed in 2021, shaping a large focus of this session.   Legislation  Unsatisfactory:

This week on the Dawn of Drones podcast, we end an incredible month focused on autonomy with David Heath, Executive Director of the PA Drone Association and one of the leaders of the nonprofit Aerium. The PA Drone Association is a 501C(6) trade association that advocates, promotes, and grows the societal and economic benefits of safe, accessible, and affordable uncrewed systems technologies in Pennsylvania. Aerium is the related 501C(3) non-profit organization formed to cultivate the pipeline between students, educational institutions and the aviation industry, with an emphasis on autonomous systems.
