The American Bureau of Shipping issued the first-ever classification for a commercial autonomous, uncrewed vehicle to Saildrone for the 10-meter Voyager.
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has been a driving force in shaping the standards for safety and excellence in design and construction for the maritime industry for over 150 years. Saildrone is excited to announce that ABS has issued the first-ever class certificate for a commercial, uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) for the Saildrone Voyager.

Saildrone Fleet Reaches New Milestone: 1,000,000 Nautical Miles and 32,000 Days at Sea
The accomplishment comes just 10 years after the first Saildrone USV crossed the Pacific Ocean and confirms Saildrone’s position as the only proven long-range, long-endurance uncrewed platform.
On a windy day in October 2013, a small team of engineers and boatbuilders watched the first wind-powered ocean drone disappear over the horizon, bound for Hawaii 2,200 nautical miles away. That journey took 34 days.
Fast forward 10 years, and Saildrone’s fleet of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), now 136 strong and scaling rapidly, has sailed 1,042,620 nautical miles and spent 32,438 days at sea—and counting.

Flying Drones in the World’s Most Challenging Environments
Date/Time: Wednesday, November 29 at 3:00 – 4:00 pm ET
Webinar Description:
New drone platforms are pushing the limits on where and how drones are able to fly.
Whether in the dark, in inclement weather, in crowded urban settings or in the face of the most aggressive jamming campaign in UAV history, drones are navigating challenging environments that were previously thought unnavigable by uncrewed aircraft; in the battlefield, in public safety responses and in industrial facilities.
Choosing Electro-optical Sensors for Autonomous Systems
Date/Time: Tuesday, December 5 at 12:00 – 1:00 pm ET
Webinar Description:
This webinar will clarify how autonomous systems use electro-optical sensors that include sensors that operate in technologies based on visible light, infrared light and radar that enable remote sensing for autonomous vehicles that include aircraft and unmanned land and sea systems. Participants will be provided with the theoretical background that will make it possible to understand remote sensing applications in the optical frequency parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.
