DJI announces that drones have helped rescue more than 500 people around the world from danger
According to new statistics collected by DJI, drones have helped rescue more than 500 people around the world from danger.
The milestone was achieved in mid-October, when a DJI drone with a thermal imaging camera was used to find a missing 93-year-old woman in a dark field in Missouri.
“With more than 500 people now rescued by drones operated under basic rules, we can see how reasonable regulations with low barriers to entry literally save lives, and how useful expanded drone operations at night and over people will be when they are permitted at scale,” says Brendan Schulman, DJI vice president of Policy & Legal Affairs.

The winners of the 2020 XCELLENCE Humanitarian and Public Safety Awards, sponsored by DJI, were announced on Thursday, Oct. 8.
The winners in the Humanitarian Project/Program category are Nepal Flying Labs for its Drones Optimized Therapy Systems, the UMD UAS Test Site for its Human Organ Transplant Delivery UAS program, and WildTrack for its Footprint Identification Technique (FIT).
The winners in the Public Safety Project/Program category are the Chula Vista Police Department for its Drone as a First Responder (DFR) Program, DRONERESPONDERS for its DRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Alliance, and Verity for its efforts to make drones safer with its Failsafe by Verity.

Skydio, DroneResponders develop safety principles to advance responsible and effective deployment of drones
Skydio has announced that it worked with DroneResponders to help develop the “The Five C’s: Principles for the Responsible Use of Drones by Public Safety Agencies,” which was released on Monday, July 20. The principles are designed to advance the responsible and effective deployment of drones.
“We take pride in developing autonomous solutions that earn the trust of our customers,” Skydio says. “But we know it’s not enough. In order to realize the full potential of unmanned flight, the public must trust the technology, and the way it is used, as much as our customers.”
