Today 3DR announced the release of Site Scan, an aerial analytic platform that enables customers to inspect, survey and scan work sites with the Solo smart drone and deliver that data to the cloud for processing.

3DR developed Site Scan as an open and extensible platform. Site Scan’s aerial analytics leverage the latest innovations in image capture from Sony and cloud processing capture capabilities from Autodesk to deliver an end-to-end solution ready-made for existing reality capture workflows. A Solo drone, a Sony Xperia tablet preconfigured with the Site Scan app, a Sony UMCR10C or GoPro HERO Black camera, unlimited storage in the 3DR cloud, and unlimited processing and publishing credits with the Autodesk cloud are included in the Site Scan package. The workflows are managed entirely on the Sony tablet.

Site Scan allows people in construction, telecom, geographic information system, mapping, energy, infrastructure, and other related fields to aggregate and process multiple forms of reality capture data and perform inspections. The app also supports reality capture needs in three modes: inspect, survey and scan.

Site Scan automatically calculates a flight plan for surveys and scans, and Solo autonomously executes both flight and image capture. Inspect mode lets users examine and photograph towers and other structures with everyday swiping and pinching on the tablet screen. This process leverages the Sony camera's zoom lens, where precise imagery is required to capture asset identification information. Survey captures images to create high-resolution georeferenced maps and digital elevation models, while scan captures imagery to create 3-D models. These data can be seamlessly integrated into popular professional design and engineering platforms.

"3DR has created the professional multirotor system that McKim & Creed and other engineering companies have been waiting for,” says Christian Stallings, research and development manager for McKim & Creed. “Finally there is a solution that combines intelligent hardware, intuitive software and camera systems built for mapping, not movie making. 3DR is truly changing the way that people will think about professional mapping drones."

Site Scan is expected to be available in June 2016, priced at $4,999 with a monthly service fee of $499 paid annually with a 12-month commitment. Site Scan with the GoPro camera is available immediately for order on store.3dr.com, priced at $3,249 with a monthly service fee of $499 paid annually with a 12-month commitment. The package includes a Solo smart drone, four batteries, battery charger, GoPro HERO4 Black, Sony Xperia Z4 tablet, SanDisk 64GB SD card and a case.
