California Public Utility Commission Moves Forward on Autonomous Rideshare
Arlington, Va. - AUVSI is encouraged by the recent decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to approve a permitting process for autonomous vehicles (AV) to enter into the state’s rideshare market. This cutting-edge technology offers myriad safety benefits while strengthening the economy and creating jobs, especially as COVID-19 has emphasized the need to limit human-to-human contact. This sign of confidence in AV from the world’s fifth-largest economy is a major step towards a greater public embrace of this new technology, and AUVSI stands ready to support CPUC, state legislators, and companies as the process moves forward.
