Einride to use latest funding to support organizational growth and continued investment in its software platform

Autonomous transport provider Einride has raised $25 million in a Series A round. The company will use the funding to support both organizational growth and continued investments in its software platform. The funding will also be used to further international expansion, which will allow the company to continue building demand for sustainable transport and delivering on its growing number of customer contracts with entities such as logistics provider DB Schenker, supermarket chain Lidl and transport intensive companies based in the U.S.

Aeronyde to establish new drone operations command and control center in Covington, Virginia

A new drone operations command and control center will be established in the city of Covington, Virginia thanks to a $350,000 investment from Melbourne, Florida-based Aeronyde Corporation, which provides aerial informatics technologies that focus on UAS-based data acquisition and machine learning analysis technologies. 25 new jobs will be created as a result of the investment.

Blue Ocean Monitoring to support its global survey operations with newly purchased AUV

To help support its global survey operations, Blue Ocean Monitoring Ltd. has purchased a new L3Harris Technologies Iver3 AUV. Capable of operating up to 200 meters, the Iver3 AUV delivers extremely accurate survey data, while significantly reducing project cost, time and risk. The AUV is small enough and light enough to be deployed by a single user from small work vessels or directly from shore.  “The Iver3 AUV is a powerful addition to the expanding range of innovative technology we operate, and the services we can provide,” says Keith Wallace, chief commercial officer of Blue Ocean Monitoring.

uAvionix acquires avionics startup AeroVonics

uAvionix has made its first foray into advanced digital cockpit displays for the General Aviation (GA) market with the acquisition of Albuquerque, New Mexico-based avionics startup AeroVonics LLC.  Through the acquisition, uAvionix will integrate the AV-20S Multi-Function Display (MFD) and the AV-30 Primary Flight Display (PFD) products into its existing product line.  “I just can’t tell you how ecstatic we are to bring the expertly executed AeroVonics technology into this new era of uAvionix. These products are truly best in class, and as standalone products they are exciting.” says CEO Paul Beard.

Self-driving vehicle startup DeepRoute raises $50 million in funding

Self-driving vehicle startup DeepRoute has raised $50 million in its pre-Series A funding round to expand the global presence of its autonomous driving technologies. With the funds, DeepRoute will be able to accelerate the research and development of autonomous technologies for passenger vehicles. “Our team is very excited about the most recent round of funding we have received and how these funds will help further the advancement of autonomous vehicles on our roads,” says Shuang Gao, chief operating officer of DeepRoute.

GA-ASI, NASA teaming up for UAS demo scheduled for next year

As part of NASA’s project to integrate UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS), General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) is partnering with NASA to conduct a demonstration flight.  Scheduled for 2020, the demonstration will seek to address some of the challenges that prevent routine commercial UAS operations in the NAS today. These challenges include development, integration, and certification of UAS, as well as the technologies needed for safe operation with other manned and UAS traffic in the NAS. “NASA and GA-ASI have a shared goal of seeing UAS fly safely and unencumbered in the NAS,” says Linden Blue, CEO, GA-ASI.

FLIR Systems acquires intellectual property and assets of Aria Insights

The intellectual property (IP) and certain operating assets of Aria Insights Inc., previously known as CyPhy Works Inc., have been acquired by FLIR Systems.  Founded in 2008, Aria was a developer of tethered small UAS before it ceased operations in March. One of its most well-known developments was the Persistent Aerial Reconnaissance and Communications (PARC) tethered drone. FLIR says that Aria’s assets will be integrated into its Unmanned Systems and Integrated Solutions Division, supporting the company’s technology portfolio, which has been built from its acquisitions of Prox Dynamics in 2016 and Aeryon Labs and Endeavor Robotics earlier this year.

Built Robotics raises $33 million for autonomous construction technologies

Built Robotics, a developer of technology that transforms construction equipment into fully autonomous robots, has announced the close of a $33 million Series B. Existing equipment from any manufacturer can be equipped with Built Robotics’ automated guidance systems, while still maintaining the ability to have complete manual operation. The upgraded equipment can perform a variety of tasks fully autonomously including digging trenches, excavating foundations, and grading building pads. A web-based platform manages the autonomous fleet, which allows the robots to be supervised by remote equipment operators.

Department of Transportation announces funding for automated driving projects

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao recently announced that eight projects in seven states will receive nearly $60 million in federal grant funding to test the safe integration of automated driving systems (ADS) onto U.S. roadways.

Aptiv, Hyundai forming autonomous driving joint venture

Aptiv and Hyundai Motor Group have announced that they are forming an autonomous driving joint venture, which will advance the design, development and commercialization of SAE Level 4 and 5 autonomous technologies. The joint venture will start testing fully driverless systems next year, with a plan to have a production-ready autonomous driving platform available for robotaxi providers, fleet operators, and automotive manufacturers in 2022.
