We are now three months into 2023 and have reached the halfway point of most state legislative sessions. Coming into this year, AUVSI revamped its state strategy, moving to a more proactive approach, actively engaging at a more frequent and effective level, and showing high value to our members as well as strong leadership in the state advocacy space.
In December of 2022, we launched our 50-state drone-focused educational initiative, Drone Prepared. Since launch, we have reached out to legislators in all 50 states, held dozens of meetings with key stakeholders, gotten multiple variations of our language introduced, passed our model bill into law, and promoted our work through podcasts, articles, and social media.
In addition to our proactive work with Drone Prepared, we have continued to monitor and engage on all relevant air domain state legislation. Just three months into the session, we are tracking over 150 air-related measures, more than double the seventy-three bills we tracked across the entire 2022 session. This has allowed us to provide thought leadership to other drone organizations, engage in legislation both good and bad, plug our membership and chapters into our state work, and identify emerging legislative trends.
In a new mid-session report, AUVSI's State Advocacy team provides an overview of the legislation they are seeing, a deep dive into state engagement, a review of their communications strategy and chapter engagement, and concludes with the future of Drone Prepared.
