Automated Freight Summit: Day Three
AUVSI today hosted the final day of the first-ever Automated Freight Summit (AFS) with discussions on automated mobility systems and last-mile delivery solutions – all during a critical moment for this sector. With technology advancing, a large federal infrastructure spending package anticipated, and localities seeking recovery from the fluctuations on transportation demands during the height of the COVID-19 situation, Mark de la Vergne from Cavnue urged attendees to think about how this is an important moment to consider what we want our collective mobility future to look like.

Automated Freight Summit: Day Two
AUVSI today hosted Day Two of the first-ever Automated Freight Summit (AFS). Throughout panel discussions on, “Public Safety Stakeholder Interactions with Automated Freight,” “Truck Operators of the Future,” “What Does Safety Mean for Automated Trucks?” and “Societal Impacts of Automated Freight,” all panelists returned to the most important topic at hand: safety.
Captain Arnold Hardy of the California Highway Patrol summed up the day succinctly by saying, “It’s all about safety,” and Dan Goff of Kodiak Robotics echoed the sentiment when he asserted that, “Safety is really the core technology we are all building on the development side.”

Compact LiDAR enables data-informed decision-making
Advancements in autonomous vehicle (AV) technology are driving innovations in a variety of use cases and hold the potential to provide a myriad of social benefits. As cities and states increasingly recognize the value of these benefits and grant authorizations for autonomous vehicles (AVs) to operate on shared streets, demonstrating safety to regulators and earning the trust of the public is top of mind for the AV industry.
AVs advancing along the continuum of autonomy rely on high-definition, precise digital maps to conduct routine, safe operations. One challenge facing AVs is that this data must be constantly updated in order to present realistic representations of road conditions.

Business of Automated Mobility Forum: Day Two
AUVSI and SAE International today co-hosted the second and final day of the Business of Automated Mobility Forum. Attendees learned from standard-setters, technology developers, and other experts from across the automated mobility industry, including from companies operating in autonomous vehicles (AVs) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
Below are highlights from discussions about the need to build on advancements in technology to deployment and integrate autonomous systems, at scale.
Autonomous Technology Can Benefit Society
“We know technology can make a difference,” said Mark Rosekind, Chief Safety Innovation Officer at Zoox, Inc. during his keynote remarks.
