Gray Eagle ER UAS performs flight demonstration using Dynetics GBU-69B Small Glide Munition

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) has announced that from Aug. 21 to 22, a U.S. Army MQ-1C ER Gray Eagle Extended Range (GE-ER) UAS performed a flight demonstration using a Dynetics GBU-69B Small Glide Munition (SGM), which is a lightweight munition with increased effective range. The demonstration was a collaborative effort between GA-ASI, the U.S. Army and Dynetics.  “The GE-ER operates at an altitude that provides an advantage when using stand-off munitions,” says David R. Alexander, president, GA-ASI. “The reduced weight of the SGM allows the UAS to carry more munitions per aircraft.”

Terra Drone Indonesia showcases the advantages of using UAS for pipeline monitoring

Terra Drone Indonesia, a group company of Terra Drone Corporation, recently showcased the advantages of using UAS for pipeline monitoring during a demonstration for Indonesian oil and gas group Medco Energi Internasional Tbk PT in Purwakarta, West Java. The Terra BRAMOR C4EYE UAS, manufactured by Terra Drone group company C-Astral, was used during the demonstration. 

FLIR Systems unveils FLIR StormCaster family of UAS payloads for its UAS

FLIR Systems Inc. has introduced the FLIR StormCaster family of UAS payloads for the company’s SkyRanger R70 and R80D SkyRaider UAS. According to FLIR, the new line launches with two multi-sensor products, the StormCaster-T and StormCaster-L. The StormCaster-T delivers continuous zoom and longwave infrared (LWIR) imaging, while the StormCaster-L provides ultra-low-light imaging, tracking, and mapping.

USVI Department of Health, partners complete 43-mile open-ocean drone crossing involving health supplies

In collaboration with Skyfire Consulting and Doosan Mobility Innovation Inc., the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) Department of Health and the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) recently completed a 43-mile open-ocean drone crossing between St. Croix and St. Thomas. The UAS carried simulation vials and other health supplies in a temperature-controlled compartment during the flight.

DroneResponders forms Major Cities Working Group for public safety agencies using UAS in urban and large metropolitan areas

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, DroneResponders formalized the DroneResponders Major Cities Working Group, which is designed to unite and help public safety agencies that use UAS in urban and large metropolitan areas.  Charter members of the working group include representatives from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and the New York Police Department (NYPD). Leaders from each of these organizations have accepted appointments on the leadership council for the working group, and will work  directly with DroneResponders to establish communications with other public safety agencies interested in using UAS for missions in dense population centers and large metropolitan areas.

AeroVironment awarded contract to support Middle eastern ally's Puma AE and Raven B tactical UAS

A Middle eastern ally has awarded AeroVironment a firm fixed-price contract worth nearly $12 million for logistics support, spares, and repair services in support of its existing fleet of AeroVironment Puma AE and Raven B tactical UAS. With a period of performance of two years, the contract was awarded on Oct.25, AeroVironment says. 

DroneDeploy to use latest funding to expand internationally, continue building suite of offerings

DroneDeploy has closed a $35 million Series D round, bringing the company’s total funding to $90 million. DroneDeploy will use the funding to expand internationally, move into new industries, and continue building out its suite of offerings for customers. “Businesses of every size are turning to DroneDeploy to enable them to make better decisions,” says Mike Winn, co-founder and CEO of DroneDeploy.
