Tech Company Develops Drone Software for Emergency

AerWaze, a California-based technology company, has proposed their Clear the Air technology as a way to address the issue of drones conflicting with emergency personnel during their efforts in various crisis situations. Using a software development kit, AerWaze will provide emergency personnel and UAS with a communication tool to foster a safe flying environment during urgent situations.

Once installed into either the controller of a UAS or through a UAS app, the SDK will transmit different information to operators of drones in potentially problematic areas. The operators will be notified about where emergencies are taking place, and they will be requested to take certain actions so that they can either avoid that area or immediately land to avoid the personnel treating the area.

For emergency personnel, they will be alerted of the locations of active UAS in the area via the SDK. In the event that a drone is requested to land, emergency personnel will also be alerted of that. All of this information will be available via a web portal for emergency personnel that will provide alerts and updates of pertinent information.

AerWaze’s technology comes in response to several interferences by drones during emergency situations. The goal is to avoid these situations once the technology is installed for all parties.

“We hope we can get this out to prevent tragedies, not in response to them,” says co-founder of AerWaze Charles Marshall.

Alerts to operators of UAS can range from local jurisdictions to federal regulations from the Federal Aviation Administration or other federal agencies.
