Textron Systems Unmanned Systems has announced their newest set of ground control station tools, the Synturian family of products, which includes Synturian Control and Synturian Remote.

Known as a family of “multi-domain control and collaboration technologies that empower situational awareness and informed action,” the Synturian Control and Synturian Remote each come with unique capabilities. The Synturian Control is a multi-platform technology that can be used for several vehicles and domain control systems in an effort to amplify collaboration and the spreading of information.

The Synturian Remote is used for bettering situational awareness through mobile, network-strengthened tools that provide up to date information and collaboration. Both the Synturian Control and Synturian Remote are packaged into small, lightweight hardware that are adaptable based on a customer’s needs.

They are intended to simplify training for operators, and can handle multiple vehicles at once, and not just air systems — Textron’s Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle can be used with Synturian as well.

Textron officials said at the Monday unveiling at the Association of the U.S. Army meeting that Synturian would meet the requirements of an Army request for information issued earlier this year for new tactical UAS systems and ground control systems.

They could one day replace the current One System GCS and remote video terminals, which Textron will continue to support in the meantime.

“We believe these products are the right products to replace them when the time comes,” said Wayne Prender, Textron’s vice president of control and surface systems.

“Based on customer feedback from Textron System’s history of proven unmanned systems experience, we designed a system that focuses on the best end-user experience possible that can also meet the needs of users in today’s digital age,” said Prender. “Compared to other control and collaboration products, Synturian features a game-changing reduction in size and weight, while remaining user-intuitive and cost-effective. Additionally, the system’s ability to seamlessly integrate with a range of platforms and software from multiple domains demonstrates its place as the next-generation of control and collaboration technology.”

Both sets of technologies are currently being integrated onto several of Textron’s unmanned systems, including the Shadow Tactical UAS, the Aerosonde small UAS and the Common USV.
