Volvo Group, NVIDIA partner to develop decision making system for autonomous vehicles
The Volvo Group and NVIDIA have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development of the decision making system of autonomous commercial vehicles and machines.
The system will be designed to safely handle fully autonomous driving on public roads and highways, the companies say.
The system will use NVIDIA’s end-to-end artificial intelligence platform for training, simulation and in-vehicle computing. It will be built on NVIDIA’s full software stack for sensor processing, perception, map localization and path planning, which will facilitate a number of possible autonomous driving applications including public transport, freight transport and refuse and recycling collection.

From Unmanned Systems Magazine: Automated trucks gain traction
When it comes to self-driving vehicles, cars seem to get most of the publicity but many new and established players are seeking to transform commercial trucking by developing automation technology that helps or removes the driver.
Companies have equipped trucks with various sensors, software, tracking devices and wireless communications gear and are testing their souped-up vehicles on real roads, sometimes with customer freight onboard.
According to proponents of such efforts, autonomous trucking offers many benefits, including increased safety. In the United States, about 4,000 people a year die in truck accidents, most of which are caused by human error.
Driverless trucks could also save money and boost productivity.

Aurora, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles partner to work on self-driving commercial vehicles
Autonomous technology developer Aurora has partnered with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to work on self-driving commercial vehicles.
Aurora says that the partnership will “further expand the scope” of the Aurora Driver, which is an independent platform that Aurora describes as “the hardware, the software, and the data services that guide vehicles powered by it safely through the world.”
This will ultimately allow Aurora to offer a variety of technologies to strategic customers in logistics, transit, and other use cases, the company says.

Air Canada Cargo to market and sell Drone Delivery Canada's services
Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) has partnered with Air Canada, which will result in Air Canada Cargo using its marketing and sales platforms and resources to market and sell DDC’s drone delivery services in Canada.
Under the terms of the agreement, and subject to DDC obtaining required regulatory approvals, DDC will build and operate up to 150,000 drone delivery routes in Canada. These routes will include several components, such as timetables, flight schedules and types of UAS to be deployed.

Boeing announces investment in Robotic Skies

FAA seeks new industry partners, announces drone safety push at UAS symposium
The Federal Aviation Administration announced Monday it will partner with qualified commercial companies to perform drone integration safety work at the FAA's UAS test sites.
“The FAA intends to bridge the gap between industry and the test sites to tackle some of our most difficult technical and operational challenges,” Acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell announced at the opening session of the FAA UAS Symposium in Baltimore, hosted by AUVSI.
A broad agency announcement released Monday says applicants must be able to match the federal funds they request through this program — overall, the agency has pledged $6 million to perform the work.
