Modus adding second Saab Seaeye Sabertooth to its Hybrid AUV fleet
Saab Seaeye has announced that Modus is adding a second Saab Seaeye Sabertooth to its Hybrid AUV (HAUV) fleet.
According to Saab Seaeye, the Sabertooth AUV will be equipped with extended autonomous endurance and increased thrust for high speed survey. Additionally, the AUV will be ready for the integration of advanced and high-resolution sensors for various applications and operations, the company says.

Riptide Autonomous Solutions receives award for its UUV technology
Riptide Autonomous Solutions has earned Frost & Sullivan’s 2019 North American Strategy Innovation and Leadership Award for its UUV technology. This award comes just a few years after Riptide was recognized by Frost and Sullivan as the 2017 North America Product Leader in the UUV market.
As part of Frost and Sullivan’s recent UUV Market Study, Riptide was recognized for its continuing growth in the UUV market and expanded market presence. Riptide was also acknowledged for the expansion of its headquarters in Plymouth, Massachusetts, as well as the build out of its new manufacturing center.

Ashtead Technology strengthens its ROV positioning with Aqua-Tech Solutions acquisition
Ashtead Technology, a provider of the rental and sale of survey and ROV equipment, has announced that it has acquired Aqua-Tech Solutions, a subsea equipment rental and cutting services specialist.
Ashtead Technology says that the acquisition “significantly strengthens” its ROV and mechanical tooling offering, as it broadens its already established survey sensor rental fleet.
With the introduction of subsea cutting equipment, the acquisition also extends the firm’s specialist subsea services capability.

University of Tasmania's AUV completes successful first deployment in Antarctica
The University of Tasmania’s AUV, nupiri muka, and its support crew recently returned home after a successful first deployment in Antarctica.
Located in Tasmania, Australia, the University of Tasmania says that nupiri muka is the first untethered Australian AUV to dive under an ice shelf, joining AUVs from the UK and Sweden as the only ones in the world with this capability.
With support from the Australian Antarctic Program, nupiri muka was successfully deployed under the Sørsdal Glacier ice shelf during the summer Antarctic season. The AUV was funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) through the Antarctic Gateway Partnership.

National Oceanography Centre equipping its Autosub AUV with technology from Sonardyne
The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) will equip the next generation of its Autosub AUV—targeted for under-ice operations—with high-performance hybrid navigation technology from Sonardyne International Ltd.
The new 2,000 meter depth-rated Autosub, also known as Autosub2KUI or A2KUI, is being specifically developed to carry high-performance sensors on the most demanding research missions under polar ice. It will be equipped with Sonardyne’s highest performing SPRINT-Nav inertial navigation system (INS).

Unique Group launches Uni-Cat USV
Unique Group, a provider of integrated subsea and offshore technologies, has announced that launch of its first USV, Uni-Cat.
According to Unique Group, Uni-Cat has proven hydrographic survey capabilities, making it effective for bathymetry survey offshore and in shallow waters. The ideal use for the USV is in locations where conventional survey methods are not practical.

Kongsberg Maritime unveils new Sounder USV System
During Ocean Business 2019, Kongsberg Maritime unveiled its new Sounder USV System, which is designed and built to provide the “highest possible standard of data acquisition,” Kongsberg says.
Shortly after unveiling the new Sounder USV System, Kongsberg announced that it had signed a contract to deliver the Sounder USV System to the largest fishing company in Peru, TASA.

Dynautics launches modular and scalable Dynautics Phantom AUV
Dynautics Ltd, a developer of intelligent marine electronics for unmanned boats, has announced the launch of the Dynautics Phantom, which the company describes as a modular and scalable AUV.
According to Dynautics, the Dynautics Phantom AUV represents a new concept in modular AUV design that can be adapted to carry a variety of payloads, and scalable to make sure it can be adapted to suit the mission of the end user.
“We designed the Phantom AUV to be modular to ensure we can adapt the design to meet the needs of our potential customers,” says Dr Henry Robinson, Dynautics CEO.

L3 Technologies demonstrates ASV deploying, operating and recovering ROV
L3 Technologies has announced that the C-Worker 7 autonomous surface vessel (ASV) successfully deployed, operated and recovered an inspection-class remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for vertical and horizontal subsea inspection during a proof of concept demonstration that took place over two weeks in Cawsand Bay, Plymouth, UK.
According to L3, the system has been developed for use in hazardous offshore environments for tasks such as jacket and hull inspections, as well as pipeline and cable survey in oil and gas and renewable energy applications.
“This demonstration is a key milestone in autonomous inspection subsea technology,” says James Cowles, commercial technical sales manager for L3 Unmanned Maritime Systems UK.
