DroneUp and Vintun partner to provide UAS services for U.S. Government

On-demand drone pilot service provider DroneUp LLC has announced a partnership with Vintun LLC to provide UAS services for the United States Government. ​A provider of a number of different services for various military and government organizations, Vintun has also developed Vintun Drone-as-a-Service (VDaaS). DroneUp will use its extensive global pilot network to serve as the UAS service provider to Vintun. DroneUp says that its patent-pending platform, Mission Match, enables VDaaS’s participants to locate, qualify and deploy the right UAS pilot for the right mission. The entities will acquire, process, and deliver actionable aerial data for different agencies and organizations within the U.S. government at the highest levels.

Schiebel demonstrates Camcopter S-100 UAS during trials in Nigeria

Schiebel has announced that during trials in Rivers State, Nigeria from January 27 to 30, its Camcopter S-100 UAS demonstrated its capabilities to a large European oil and gas corporation. According to Schiebel, the international oil and gas industry has shown increasing interest in using UAS to effectively monitor and control oil and gas infrastructure, both onshore and offshore. With this in mind, the flight trials in Nigeria were designed to further investigate the implementation and potential advantages of UAS technology, as Schiebel says that its vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) Camcopter S-100 UAS offers a “substantial enhancement” for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions in an oil and gas production environment.

Boeing unveils newest unmanned platform designed for global defense customers

Boeing has introduced the Boeing Airpower Teaming System, which is the company’s newest unmanned platform. According to Boeing, the Boeing Airpower Teaming System is the company's largest investment in a new unmanned aircraft program outside the United States, as the platform was designed by Boeing Australia for global customers. Boeing says that the unmanned platform will have a number of capabilities. Measuring 38 feet long, the Boeing Airpower Teaming System will provide fighter-like performance, as it will be able to fly more than 2,000 nautical miles.

Corteva Agriscience to use DroneDeploy in its fleet of more than 400 UAS

Corteva Agriscience, which is the agricultural division of chemical company DowDuPont, has announced a global agreement with DroneDeploy to use DroneDeploy in its fleet of more than 400 DJI UAS across its global Seed Production and Supply Chain, as well as its Pioneer Strategic Account Management and Agronomy teams in the U.S., Canada, Brazil and Europe. “This agreement fortifies Corteva Agriscience as a leader in the use of advanced UAV technology,” says Jeremy Groeteke, Corteva Agriscience U.S. Digital Agriculture Lead.

Daytona Beach Police Department uses UAS to help apprehend murder suspect

The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) recently used a UAS to help apprehend a murder suspect. According to DBPD Officer and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Professor Anthony Galante, the UAS served as a “force multiplier,” providing a lookout for the six-person team trained to apprehend the suspect.

DroneSeed partners with Nature Conservancy to restore Oregon rangelands using drone swarms

In an effort to help conserve the ecosystem and imperiled species such as the sage-grouse, a company called DroneSeed that restores forests and rangelands using drone swarms has signed a contract with the Nature Conservancy Oregon to use drone swarms to restore rangelands affected by invasive species and re-seed native plants. By partnering with DroneSeed, the Nature Conservancy will have access to UAS swarm technology designed to scale to plant and protect significant acreage while planting in precision areas to boost survival rates.

PAE ISR demonstrates Resolute Eagle UAS during first meeting with NASA and FAA

PAE ISR recently hosted a joint kickoff meeting with NASA and the FAA as part of the UAS integration in the National Airspace System (NAS) Project. During the meeting, which took place at the Pendleton Unmanned Aerial Range, PAE ISR presented an overview of its solutions package for the 2020 program, and conducted a flight demonstration of its Resolute Eagle UAS.

Mississippi State awarded $7.2 million defense contract to test emerging UAS tech

On Friday, Feb. 22, Mississippi State University was awarded a $7.2 million defense contract to test emerging UAS technologies. Mississippi State was awarded the competitive U.S. Army contract to test and validate emerging UAS propulsion technologies. The contract extends through Feb. 2021, and is funded through research, development, test and evaluation appropriations provided to the Army.

DJI unveils new hardware and software tools for professional UAS operators

In an effort to give professional UAS operators improved control, safety, and security for high-stakes missions, DJI unveiled new hardware and software tools on Thursday, Feb. 21. DJI says that its new Matrice 200 Series V2 UAS are redesigned with better reliability, safety, and security features, while the FlightHub UAS operations management platform gives organizations more implementation control and data security assurances. Together, these improvements allow commercial organizations to scale and manage their UAS programs while laying the technical foundations for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) and nighttime operations.
